What kind of pound do you use? How many grams is that, 453g? A 6-cell battery weighs about 300g I think, the individual cells will be around 45/g46g each on average. So about 9 cells per pound. Seems like a fair price. If you have a lot of smaller batteries, like 3 cells, the ratio will probably be a bit worse, with many 9-cell batteries it will be a bit better.
If the pack isn't completely dead then most cells will probably be reusable, however their capacity will vary wildly from pack to pack. In some packs there will be just one dead set of parallel cells. I found that in my first batch of around 400 or so cells 75 were 1900mAh or above. 20 or 30 were completely dead, another 20 or 30 were really low capacity and the rest was between 1500 and 1900mAh. However, as I said, this can potentially vary wildly and your experience may differ. But that is the risk you have to take when doing this sort of thing. You could be lucky as well and get almost unused cells which have most of their capacity left.
