Fercsa, yeah I've posted a couple of his videos pertaining to the UPS. It was the one about connecting two together in series to get 240V output.

I'd love to get ahold of a few more UPS's. Rack mounts would be awesome, though not sure if I can conjure up one of those.
However, I've been watching on Govt auctions for UPS's and other electronics. I haven't bought anything yet, but I'm at least registered to purchase if I find something worth my time.

Not sure how that works with the physical equipment, but he tested it out and it worked. I guess maybe the FETS work harder. If that's the way it works, that makes sense when he added more FETS onto the heatsinks; which I'm going to do as well, and the add 2 more large caps. (some day I'll get the video compiled and the work finished Tongue )

You meant knurlgnar? I remember that guy. Here is all his videos about this topic, there is a lot of them. Worth to watch:

Yeah - I miss Knurlgnar24 too.

I did the upgrade of a 1500W Smart APC UPS. It's about adding extra Mosfetts (from another unit) and extra cooling for heatsinks on the mosfet and transfo (that one gets hot). and a capacitor, if I remember correctly.

You will be able to pull more watts or the original power for a longer time.

not so easy to do the modifications, but if you have an identical one to scavenge, easy enough to find parts.

I remember to have a special software (bought from a russian guy) to reprogram the settings.

my converted UPS is the one I'm going to connect to my 18650 packs, if I can find and test enough cells.

regards

Where are you located?  I can get the server ups almost at any time.  I could ship to you but Im guessing it would be $$$.  Or if you end up finding one, I tore apart about 8 ups units to get the mosfets out so I could also send you some of them.  Just a thought

I took my UPS board out and looked at the FETs to get the numbers, as well as the two big blue caps (i had to buy 4 to get 2 for the upgrade). The FETs are actually cheap.

Joe: I remember we talked earlier about the UPS's, I dont recall though: do you get the old UPS's free? If not, how much would they cost (about)? Shipping is usually gonna be around $15-$25 without the batteries (of course).

1- APC Smart-UPS XL 3000 Rackmount (SUA3000RMXL3U) 2700W / 3000VA
2- APC Smart-UPS (SUA3000RM2U)2700W/3000 VA
1- APC Smart-UPS (SURTD3000RMXLT3U) 2100w/3000VA

Hrmmmm..... what are their weights w/o the batteries? I tried to do a cost estimate, but the APC site shows the weight "with" the batteries. I'm sure the units don't weight 100lbs w/o the batteries. (excluding the 72V version)

Really interested in the "2- APC Smart-UPS (SUA3000RM2U)2700W/3000 VA"

you can estimate the 3kw ones at 20-30kg, just by eyeballing, dont have a dead one in "storage" aka as a pile of dead pc and server tech in the company

Actually, just thought of something. Going back to the APC web site and clicking the RBC43 replacement pack, the pack itself weighs 20Kgs. Ok, so the approximate weight for the UPS itself comes to about 30Kg.

USPS pricing would be about $80: USPS Calculated Costs
I doubt they'd ship media mail, though I wouldn't be opposed at trying.

I'd still pay that for one of those units  Wink
Altho, Joe could get an exact pricing with the size of the box he'd use.
