UPS and 18650s
#1
Good day.  I started and am documenting a project using an old APC UPS.  This "should" go well.

Comments and thoughts are always welcome!

UPS system do work great. My experience with running them like that is
1. They may not work good with 100% runtime. Most of the cheap ones get really really hot
2. The voltage need to be checked and if needed hacked/set

I did run with a 600VA Compaq UPS against a larger battery bank and that one could run 12 hours straight with 90% load without issues Smile

I have not done long run tests with lithium though but i dont see any issues as long as you are aware of how a lithium work and the fact that they dont like getting unbalanced in top and bottom use Smile

while fiddeling around with some today i had the same idea, but not that far advanced yet.
i have 2 750va apc ups´s laying arround and getting dust. another one i saved from the dumpster is securing my pc at home, but with an alternative batterypack. i think we as a company should reconsider dumping them after a batteryback died in them^^

I've got one I need to work on, myself. It's the APC 1500 24V setup. I got the parts to beef it up. Just gotta put them in now. Tongue lazy bones

I have a APC 1500 Smart UPS running my home PC's and stuff for when the power blips. it's been working great. Only mod so far is the removal of the beeper. That's a must

Hahah, yep, the beepers need to be silenced. However, I'm going to do the UART communications and reset the programming in mine. You can actually turn the beeper off for power blips and only come on when the battery level gets low.
You can also change the wattage output as well. I don't recall the video (might have been knarl's video) that changed the wattage from 1500 to 2000 and 4000 surge. Not sure how that works with the physical equipment, but he tested it out and it worked. I guess maybe the FETS work harder. If that's the way it works, that makes sense when he added more FETS onto the heatsinks; which I'm going to do as well, and the add 2 more large caps. (some day I'll get the video compiled and the work finished Tongue )

Awesome @Korishan I'd Like to try that for my 1500. I also have a rack mount 1400 that I'd like to play with too
