I've already got a 6kw solar setup with a SMA Sunny Boy grid tieinverter. I think the standard route for adding battery with these is to link the Sunny Boy with the SMA battery inverter - Sunny Island. All added up, that's a pretty big expense before the battery cost.
I was thinking about adding a PIP and batteries for maybe one power outlet circuit ... but then saw these:

I might be better off selling the SMA and putting one of these in when I have enough battery to make it worthwhile. I'm having trouble finding the retail pricing for them, but from a couple of articles I think this whole unit costs less than a Sunny Island:
* Multiple battery chem
* Grid export
* 9.5kw grid pass through
* Seems to have lots of programming options
* backup - house can stay powered when the grid goes down
