Pete's BMS Story - Regular updates with issues or excitement I find along the way.

worked well but I shouldn't have bothered buying the bootlace tool - it really is useless on the small ones. Just use a good pair of pliers.

Do you know what size bootlace connector was best for going into watchmon. I can buy pack of 25 from local electrical data supplier?

I'm curious about your new Flatpack2 Part NO:24115.105
I'd like to buy a Flatpack for the system I am designing and building but would like to know more about it.
Does the Flatpack run off the inverter and charge the batteries?  Does the Flatpack need to be connected to the city/grid power?
Ultimate Question.... if the inverter is powering the Fastback and the inverter is powered by solar cells, is the system ultimately self sustainable?  Undecided

Hey there Pete - I'm new to the group but love all that you've done and the community that you've brought together!!!

I don't know if this should be a new post, but as a lot of the makeup of the Batrium products is arduino / Raspberry Pi based, has anyone considered an OpenHAB interface to the whole system?   I think that's where I'm ultimately heading to have all the interfaces from all the technologies conneted together in one neat place (and web based).
I'm building that interface for my system - still in development stages.
Thanks, Howie.

I have put together a Rasperry PI with most tools. New version on its way out.

Currently consists of most tools needed including MQTT and NodeRed. Im currently testing if im gonna add OpenHAB on top of it for those wanting that.

Perfect - you guys rock!
I suspect I'll be adding Batrium to my home system in the next few months - Love the energy (pun intended) here!!!!
I still have much to do and many things to document, but I'm a professional coder with 35 years experience and with 10 years of the IOT experience with IBM, I'm so hooked!

Thanks for all you do, Howie.

Hi guys.
Since my joining the forum here earlier this year I have been slowly building my first 5kwh battery pack.
I bought new cells for this first battery as I wanted to get my first battery up and running ASAP. I am now starting to go through the process of processing old laptop batteries to be able to cost effectively increase my energy storage.
Any way I’ve been doing a lot of reading both here and other places. And I now understand that I will very soon need a bms or battery ballencing system as from what I’ve read and YouTubed the individual packs in my 14s battery will self ballence with in each pack but with out a bms the packs will not ballence between each other. This is already visible if I manually check the voltage of each pack as one pack is already .01 to .02 of a volt higher than all the other packs.

My main question is regarding which bms system to buy. Are there any other systems worth looking at or is it a case of everyone here recommends batrium as they are simply the best and reasonable on cost ???

My second question is regarding where to buy batrium from over here in the uk ????

And my last question is more of advice on the best way to begin to expand my system. Currently I have 10 kW of solar panels of which 6 panels are on a tracking pole mount I designed and built my self. I’m using a Victron multi plus 48 volt 5kva which is able to charge at 70 amps which is about 3500watts and invert/discharge st 100 amps, so around 4500watts.
I’m looking to expand my storage by quite a way and hope to get around 40 to 50 kWh in the end.
So the question is how to add more batteries?? Would I be better to build more batteries the same capacity as my first so 14s 5 kWh and connect each new battery to a central connection point or would it be better to build new packs and connect them in such a way that it simply increased to capacity if the individual packs I have already built.

By the way this thread has been a fantastic read and your hb  Powerwall u tube videos have really been inspirational watching.

Batrium can only be bought from AU directly. With the new shipping alternative its rather fast getting it.

Looks like I need to fork over the cash for Batrium. I just spent all day looking at BMS and I can't find anything as good as Batrium. Other systems would work, but they are expensive too. Anyone got a discount code or referral link? Certainly someone can benefit as you guys are the ones that recommended it to me.

Definitely add openhab to it. Btw, what are you using influx’s for?
