I test and charge cells I know are good at 1000ma. However when the opus discharges is uses the same 1000ma. However, some cells are rated to discharge at 500ma. So is there a workaround for this, or is it safe to let cells discharge at 1000ma, even though they are only rated to 500ma?

I think you can change the discharge rating, if I'm not mistaken. Could be wrong seeing as how I don't have one myself.

There isn't anything really wrong with discharging at 1A. However, it does show what the cell is 'capable' of. If it can handle 1A draw and not get hot, then it can do just fine in a pack running <250mA without issues.

They seem to handle it just fine. Quicker to test too :)

That said, you can only change the discharge rating if you charge then discharge manually. I also intend to discharge my cells all at the same rate to get an accurate capacity test. So I shall stick to 500ma. Once my battery holders arrive, I will be able to use my RC chargers to parallel charge. And cycle the cells.

So the Opus will only really be used to check capacity. Many of my cells are from laptop batteries known to have been working before I dismantled them, so I can charge said cells in parallel at relatively high currents. 500ma per cell, 6p. I will make sure that they are all at the same voltage first.

The Flysky charger is great. I can awaken a Li-Ion with the Ni-Mh setting, at 100ma. Then once 2.5v is reached, charge as Li-Ion.

So far, no hot cells. Just have to leave them sit, and check for self discharge. I always cycle twice, then leave them to rest. I find if only charged once, a fresh 'awoken' cell will self discharge.
