Opus 3100 v2.2 weird discharge pattern

My Opus 3100 has been working great for charging and now I'm ready to discharge / capacity test the batteries.

I didn't notice this on the first set last night, but today when discharging, it'll randomly drop the discharge rate to zero and then start up again after a bit. The fan runs through the whole test and the cells are only barely warm, so it doesn't seem to be overheating but I don't know what else it could be. I tried a completely different set of batteries and it's doing the same thing.

Any ideas?

When the system cuts off, it's not because of the cells getting hot, it's because the internal dissipation resistors are getting too hot and it shuts down to keep it from catching fire or failing.
What you need to do is put an external fan blowing into the vents to keep the board cool. Then you won't see any shutting off (or at least anywhere near as often)

So it's the design that's bad. That's a bit annoying. Welp, time to break out the dremel an see what I can do with it.

LOL it's just the fan is slightly under-powered. Most put a PC squirrel fan on the grill that solves the problem. There were a few that actually replaced the fan with a higher cfm rating, too.

For now I opened up some of the vents below the resisters, then set up a 92mm computer fan to sit below it with usb for power and guards with rubber feet. Seems to be happier with the extra airflow.

Annnd right after I posted that, it stopped discharging. Seriously. I can touch the resisters with no problem, so I don't see why it'd be overheating.

LOL maybe there's another thermistor that's still getting hot. Just a though, for s&g's, leave the back cover off (not sure you can actually do this) and have the fan blowing on the components and see if it still does it.
It's also possible there could be a fault somewhere else (i hope not, though)

Just be carefull so you dont cool the cells itself.. By doing that you will not be able to weed out the ones that are faulty and creates alot of heat!

Yea I don't feel any air coming up through to the batteries. Setting the fan and charger on their side helps a lot; I think taller feet for the fan would let it draw and push more air so I could sit them horizontally again.
