Hover Board Packs from Ebay
#1
These are the ones Jehu has been pushing

I got my first pack in the mail today

It is of substantial weight

Disassembling the pack was surprisingly difficult. the Nickel strips are wrapped tightly around the cells and soldered to the PCB. There is absolutely no slack, I tried to use some side cutters, but I got sparks. So then I just desoldered the tabs and they came apart, then the cells were stuck together. There was no obvious glue, but when separating the cells some of the wrappers ripped because they were so strongly bonded. I have them charging now and will share my findings. Here are some pictures.

An option for cutting the strips: dremel (high speed rotary) tool with a cutting disc. Would this work?

hrmm, the glue is obviously a problem here if it rips the wrapping. Kinda makes it difficult for quick assembly as you have to fix them first. Hrm... I'm sure someone will figure that part out too. Ohh, maybe some rubbing alcohol or some other solvent. Dip the cells in a solution perhaps?

It almost looks as tho the wrappers have melted together

It's possible the could be using a thin bead of super glue. I'm sure almost all of us have had a run in with super glue. A very little bit can do a lot adhesion.

They were glued together in 2x2, and 4x1 packs, it looks like I ripped 9 of the wrappers.

It seems a pity to break these packs up , new , with a bms ...just 2 two wires into the pack ?...I guess a number of these packs could be wired in parallel?

Each pack is 2p 10s ... if each cell is only charged to the optimum of 3.93 that makes an output between 39.3 V and perhaps 32V , a bit awkward ...

The weight is comparable to other 2200mah LG Cells[Image: ab1dce2fc4972b4ad8a607593ebbaa62.jpg][Image: af471e2865bb5d43446f024245aacb83.jpg]

I have been pondering the purchase of 20 packs of these cells. Are they new, meaning they they have been cycled? Can we just rewrap the batteries or is there something else preventing this? I see comments about using these in projects, I want to use them in a PW so they have to all be removed from their packs.

Thanks for the information, looking forward to hearing more.

BTW: Are they 2200mAh

They are supposedly new cells in packs that were either destined for hoverboards or were removed from unsold hoverboards, that isn't entirely clear yet.

I have tested 3 so far; 2156, 2172, and 2192mah.

There would be nothing stopping you from rewrapping them. That's just not something I want to do, so if I can avoid it I will.

What kinda numbers should we expect from a 2.2mAh battery?
