Thanks Alec_J

I went through Alibaba as they provided some insurance and Credit Card  payment ...but would be happy to deal direct but they only deal with direct deposit.
I ordered 2400mah cells, but ended up with 2700mah, so it seems there is no short changing.

$1335 US for 850 cells (included sea shipping)

But here is where it gets messing...the point between the ship and picking them up.
$562 to get them off the ship
$500 for customs and tax - customs had them for a week and was lucky I did not have to pay storage.

$95 to get cells from Melbourne to Tasmania.

So at the end @$3.40AUD a cell

But if I do it again which I think I will .. I'll get twice the number same shipping costs, i'll do DPP Door-to-door, about $600 no more to pay.  It seems freight companies like to take some cream.

That will bring it down to less than $2.70AUD a cell....they are new, shiny and should last.

Thank you. I am in the US so I'm not sure how the customs issue would work here. Sounds like the whole customs issue was a bit of a headache for you. Glad it's over for now!

I can't wait to see your build with new cells. It will be interesting to see the performance.

Good luck with everything! I will be following your build.

Looks like I've bought a Goodwe BP.  Ideally I wanted AC coupled battery, so I could move the batteries into the carport.  But seems the market is not that matured..I am sure it will be soon.  Enphase and Selctronics ($6k cough)  seems to be the only close match.

http://solarproductsolutions.com.au/prod...-inverter/

The price on the website for the Goodwe BP is the best I have seen in Australia, and matches what they sell for in the UK.

As a note the DC coupled Goodwe BP charger only provides up to 2.4KW which will be enough to run most stuff during the evening and supplement the Sanden hot water heat pump when its cloudy.

A friend has designed and built a BMS for a car. I believe it can be simply modified for what we are looking for. See below for details.

Packaged up my source files and put it on Sourceforge:
https://sourceforge.net/projects/low-cost-bms/

You can also read all about it on our forum here:

Lots of pictures.

That's really nice. A lot to read through, I did just skim through most of it. I'll take a closer look at it later and try to better understand it Tongue

but that does have a lot of what I was looking to do with my packs.

Downside the wire I ordered from Aliexpress for the fuse was 0.1mm not 0.2mm as requested.

Here is a shot of the 5kw solar panels that will power the batteries.  The other photo is the wiring underneath, using stainless catenary; with plastic inset washers to ensure stainless and aluminium don't touch.

Damn. I like what you have done.... Look really good and functional.

A little bit of a pause as I waited for a 80w  soldering iron, MC4 puller, switch board and flux pens.

I have mounted the GoodWe charger, and installed the switch board for the energy flow meter.

I have an issue with installing the current sensor to the mains inlet, as space is limited... and will need to get an Electrician in...I do some stuff, but this was pushing my limits of I don't want to screw this up.

I have also just started soldering the battery packs and it's going OK.
