Hi!

Short question:

Has anyone already used these EC5 Plugs?

image_rzzhvb.jpg

They are mainly used in RC.

They saythey are good for up to 120 Amps (Two Wires). In reality probably less, but that'll be ok.

I thought that would be an alternative to the Anderson Connectors (checked the prices, they are pretty expensive per pair i'd say)

Best,
Chris

How tight is the connection or have you not purchased them yet? They seem like they might be similar to the Anderson Plugs. I would be cautious about the 120amp claim as well. Unless an electrician can verify the claim.

They look more like the XT plugs, to me. Maybe a light hybrid between the two.

Also, even they are rated at 120A, it's probably only for like 5 seconds or so. Same with the XT connectors. Andersons can usually take the full Amp rating for like 30s or so without issues.

EC5 are good alternative and can be compared to xt90 or xt150 even. EC5 can do 100+A without issues and have been running them. Though switched to XT90 and XT150 lately.

But soldering them and get them together can sometimes be a bit of a trick :D

Yes, connecting it to the cable looks not as easy. You have a rather short way to put the cable inside the golden plug, about 8mm.

But i guess if the plug is additionally attached to the pack it gets more stable.

I think regarding the price and specs it can be an alternative.

It most definitely is. But i recommend to take a look at xt150. They are like EC5 but a bit bifier. Though single plugs but could be alternative to use

I do RC's so see the EC5 a lot. I have seen them handle 150Amps with some heating but no issues. But this is over about 10 min not long term. I would say if you use both connections you would be safe at 100Amps (50Amps per side) for a constant and 200Amps for Burst <10 min.

As for soldering they are actually one of the easier connectors as you solder them out o the blue connector and while its still hot click it into the blue case. the key is it needs to be still hot.

So what I do is solder the wire into the bullet connector on the bench wither either a set of Vice grips or vice to hold the connector and heat up the connector, add solder then add the pre tinned wire to the hot connector.

then right after it sets using some sort of thin screwdriver or pick pushing it into the blue connector on the table until you hear and feel the click. it should rotate in the connector easily.

Then do the other one the same way. As long as you do not strip off too much of the wire cover you will not need shrink wrap over the connector as the back part covers the soldered side.

If Someone would like I can do a Video on how I do that

Many thanks for the replies!
The video proposal sounds very interesting, but i won't ask for that ... :)

I'm racing (RC's ) tonight but I'll take a quick on tomorrow

Just purchased some xt150 for testing. As they are separate, as daromer said, they might be a little more flexible concerning usage.

I'll post a comparison when they arrive.

Cool. the 150 Version should be great for current flow

I Video is Uploading but It'll be a bit. My Internet sucks so It'll be a couple hours.

Link below for the Video when it's uploaded. I'm heading to bed

@jdeadman Thanks a lot for the contribution! Got a little sick - so would have replied earlier.

One thing though: The link doesn't seem to work/no videos on the channel.

Did you run into problems concerning your bandwidth?

Many thanks and best,
Chris

No problem. Sorry for the length I talk too much. Lol

blah, don't worry about it. We all do. Just look at Pete's videos :p And Joe does a lot of "Umms". It's all good! If we were pros at videography, we'd be making money that way!

Hi everyone,

just got the XT150 Plugs :)

I must say they are pretty nice, and one can combine the single connectors into a double one. I'll post some pics shortly.

So i did a short comparison of the EC5 and the XT150 Plugs.

The EC5 are nice and compact and seem to handle quite some Amps (as daromer mentioned 100 Amps). The space for soldering will exactly fit a 3x2,5 mm2 twisted busbar.

The XT150, due to their larger diameter, are a lot stronger and there is more space for soldering, even if the golden tips have a coned drilling (3.9 mm in depth) and are not hollow inside (such as the EC5). They can handle up to 150 Ampscontinuous.

The nice thing is (see images) that you can use the XT150 single or you can connect them (they have adovetail connection).

@jdeadman do you think the short length of the soldered connection can cause any issues?

Very nice. I don't think that is an issue AS LONG as you get a good solder joint with the connector.
