I'm also one watching the discharge rate and saving high discharge cells to the side for other projects like a car jump pack etc where small light and high discharge is desired and all the standard ones I'll toss in to a power wall/ups type of setup and design max possible draw under the smallest rating per cell ~400ah/cell (I'm using smaller rating cells too).

I'm sure E-cig users (or selling for that market) would also be more interested in the high c rated cells.

One thing I'm unsure of for a power wall setup is what happens if you do have a high draw on the pack with say one high discharge cell with a bunch of low discharge cells? Will they push about the same evenly, or will the cells with more ability push harder and drain faster which would recoup via balancing after the high draw is gone. For now I'm trying to play it save and separate them out.

Another thing I've been reading about a bit more is the internal resistance testing, which more or less directly relates to discharge rate, capacity, charge state, and internal wear. If there's some standard that comes about for testing internal resistance, I think it would give a good way to charge the cell to a standard value (say full charge 4.2v), then perform the IR test and see if it's about acceptable for what the cell is. I also suspect similar IR cells should be used together for best results.

Thanks Simon,  yes I was reading the datasheet incorrectly.  There's obviously a BIG difference between  "Discharge Current" and "Max Discharge Current".  Actually, I was reading the cell database incorrectly....

So in this example (from the datasheet)  the rated capacity of 2600mAh is based on discharge of 0.2C (or 520mA) until cell reaches 2.75V ???

Thanks for setting me straight.  The reason why Max Discharge Current is important (to me) is  because I'm assembling a drill pack (high current draw) from the cells that don't make it into my powerwall.

Found 4 of these LG cells, three of them tested over 2900mAh !

Make/Model: LG LGABC41865 (INR18650C4)
Capacity: 2850mAh
Nominal Voltage: 3.65v
Charge Voltage: 4.20v
Charge Current: 1375mA
Discharge Voltage: 2.75v
Discharge Current: 550mA (is this right? am I reading the data sheet correctly?)
Wrap Color: Chocolate (brown)
Ring Color: White

Here are some pictures of a purple ICR18650NH (MH28822). The rest of the data is already in the database, there just weren't any pictures.

Riddle me this... Found a cell with the same model as one already in the DB, but this one has a different color wrap than the pics in the DB.

These data references (NOT datasheets) apply to:

UP383562 - Polymer

US18650GR - Graphite

US18650 - Hard carbon


I've used this in the past when working with these cells, they seem to be accurate when I've been testing.
