So unless you have gotten all cells to 3.5V or above you still have cells not balanced to the other and its hard to tell if the voltage sag is normal or not. Thats where the BMS came in to play. It will tell you if all of them are pushed up to top and are fully charged. So you should basicly run them and charge untill you get them up. Just make sure that no other cells goes bananas and go way above lets say 3.65V.  

I had to do this manually for almost 3 weeks untill i got mine balanced good enough.  And as long as you havent hooked your BMS up to the inverter in terms of regulating the charge current you need to manually watch the Batrium software and make sure no cells goes to high. If that happens you need to lower the charging current or if you use MPP products lower the voltage. And when you see that it doesnt charge and highest is at for instance 3.5V you raise the voltage 0.1V again and keep doing that.

3.5V is recomended voltage on most those cells for longeivity. 3.65V is maximum and you can potentially push it towards that while balancing.

Example of my system right now. I have 1 cell at 3.55V that is being balanced and then next one is at 3.51. Rest is between 3.46 to 3.49V and pretty topped up.

So no need to look for a specific charger really. Most chargers can be set in such a way that the float/bulk will work. Float only to be used briefly. I have mine 0.2V below the other and it works great so far. It goes to float for just minutes and then stop charging the battery when top voltage is reached. In above image the charging stopped just minutes earlier


That does explain a lot.

I think once I get the system running with the shunt I will really get it. I learn from doing.

Hi all
I purchased one of these 48 volt inverters. I received it but seems to have copped some rough treatment on it's  way here.
There was something rattlng around inside. I'm communicating with ebay seller regarding this.
Just wondering can my batrium bms control this unit?

Should be possible based on the inverter having a RS485 port. However a review of the inverter protocol needs to be completed, for now assume it is not supported.

The inverter supplier hopeful will supply you with the protocol document outlining how the inverter can be controlled, unfortunately many dont. We are happy to review the protocol document to verify if the BMS could potential drive the inverter / charger. Please send the protocol document via email and I will have a quick look. If the protocol is public domain this can potential be open sourced onto the "bridgeconnect". 

If there is enough demand then it can be considered, provided a loan inverter is available to run on the test bench for a few weeks. We have a number of other inverters going though this process of validation, this equipment is not currently on the list.

I have a couple more questions  Smile

1. Should I choose LiFePO4 - Long life, or Typical for the CALB cells, or is it not important?

2. Also is there a way to set battery bank voltage for the system?

3. In Setup wizard, it has nominal capacity as 120.000, should I be changing this?

1. Long life. Same as with Laptop cells where you dont go to 4.2V you only go to max 3.5 on LiFe.
2. If you are running the Batrium from the bank main voltage you get a sense of total voltage there. But its more accurate with the shunt when you get that one installed. You can though group strings: https://www.batrium.com/pages/understand...n-settings Check Diff nominal.
3. Im not sure if thats "used" without the shunt.

I am in the process of building a wall using cells from a Nissan Leaf. I am at the point of the project where I need to select an inverter. Any info on the Batrium / Conext integration? I am looking to do Load Shifting to avoid high Time of Use charges. I would also like to top off the batteries at reduced nightly rates if solar wasn't enough the prev day.

Right now I am interested Batrium/Schneider integration. I have been unable to find any documentation regarding this.
