Can someone recommend a auto cad conversion tool? I have created what I thought would be an acceptable image of PowerWall mount diagram including precise measurements and when I go to convert it using a only tool, it strips out the measurements and leaves on the graphics.... Slight useless. The fabricator is asking for a .dxf format.

Kind regards,
Bob

Bob,

I would think that Autocad would have a "save as" or "export" function to create file types that the wider world uses.

What file type are you creating right now?

If I can import it into Solidworks, I can make you a .dxf file.

Hi Bob,

do you have an Autodesk 360 Account?
Usually it should be possible to get what you want.
I am not quite sure, but you have an Autocad drawing you want to export, right?
If you say it strips out the measurements, do you mean the labels?
If yes, they need to be converted to vector graphics if you'd want to keep that in the drawing?
DXF stores Vectors only, no meta data, though.

Best

Hi John,

My AutoDesk on the MAC only allows me to export to PSD, PDF, SVG, PNG, GIF,JPEG, and TIFF. Never thought this would be a problem.

What is the file extension of your work files that you normally save?

all i can bring to the topic is, qcad uses .dxf, if that is compatible, i dont know

depending on how much work is in the drawing, if nothing helps you could recreate it in there, but it is only 2d-cad

I suspect I need to call the fabricator before I hurt my brain. All this CAD stuff is alien to me, I thought just drawing what a old time like myself would call a blue print would be sufficient. It seems that what they want this day is a 3D rendering of your design.... I have problems with 2d, whats next.... 4d? Anyway, I will just call and ask what do I need to do....

as i am learning it myself atm, start with 2d. qcad is simple enough so even i can do something with it. just this morning i did my first "pocket" successfully in freecad

btw, there is actual 4d cad software, like cinema4d^^

I used AutoCAD for my mount diagram. There is a free full feature 30 day trial. If you have an edu email address, you can get a license free.

Yes, I have a .edu address but have not used it in some time....... It would be nice if they recognized a .mil address.

One of the other members helped me out converting to dxf and now I have AutoCad and AutoDesk Fusion 360. The rack design is based off a 14s120p in one unit rather two. I was going to ask to remove some metal to allow packs to breathe through the back, but it looks to be too much. I sent the design over to Sheldon, let me know if you need a copy.

Bob,

Let me know if you want any other file types. SolidWorks can export in a bunch of different file types, and one of them you ought to be able to import into AutoDesk or AutoCad.

I am probably going to try to buy 4 of them, I sent out the file to the laser cutter. In the mean time, I have to look for a supplier and also a good method for testing these damn cells. I soon will have enough for my first pack and I really like your bus bar design. The question I have now is, do you wait till you have all 14 packs and evenly distribute or doesn't it matter???
