All new design with intelligent control
Spent two hrs on the bench today playing with a little project. I set the phone in its holder but never started the video...I got so involved that I forgot...
I ended up designing a single cell 18650 buck converter that drives itself at CV of 1V & CC of 1A through the discharge process...I can vary the current and voltage of course but I wanted something that I can use as a power source instead of just dumping the current into a resistor and 1V works great for a balancing charge. The next step is to adapt the design into a BMS balancing circuit, where the energy bled out of one pack, is used to increase the charge of the lowest pack in the battery. Let's say you have a 7S (nominal 24V battery), the pack with the highest voltage will be able to discharge directly into the pack with the lowest voltage until both are equal. I foresee an issue with wiring the packs to allow for this methodology but I could always "bleed" all the packs down into a standby pack, or other 'container' of my choice if the wiring and control proves too difficult.

The knowledge gained from the Nano discharger was put to use and the Arduino is still the only control IC (for now anyway). I ordered a few Mega's because they have more usable Pins and will shoot some footage once they get here. I plan to do a bit of taped testing for YouTube as the design evolves.

The code for the discharge testers has been changed a few more times and is now what I call finished. I have a couple different displays and ended up using both Liquid Crystal and the U8Glib. i also build two models, one is an 8 Cell CC, type where it just pulls 1A and the other holds 4 cells and has adjustable current. I can tell no one else has built these discharger circuit because there are no comments about the flaws in the original sketch(s)...all the issues have been addressed and I now have a wall of DIY dischargers running up to 54 cells at a time

I understand what you mean about an issue with bleeding power from one pack to another. You could probably use an optoisolator to move the power around, or maybe a capacitor to store the voltage via a transistor, and then dump the voltage through another one. So it would kind of pulse the power from one pack to the other. Not sure how fast you'd want to do that, though. Or how large of a capacitor to use.

So it's not 4000 viewers, it's just you 4000 times! Haha...I hope to have it done today. The issue is I am trying to learn to edit but I may just film a new one and try to do it in one take...editing is no fun and time consuming

Yeah, the editing part is what sux and takes the most of the time. I dont see how those guys build 20+ minutes worth of material with a lot of cuts, video splices, etc. You know it must be like 2hrs of recording altogether. Kudos to the guys who have that kind of knack for the stuff
