I am looking at purchasing a 3d printer when I'm ready to start putting my battery packs together. The battery holders that I see everyone using are nice but I would like to take a bad battery out without taking the entire pack apart. What should I look for in a printer?

A lot of people seem to recommend the Prusa I3 MK2

I'd like a 3d printer as well, but there's a few reasons why I won't be buying one yet.

Most of the sub 1000 machines appear to be projects, requiring constant fettling, regular "upgrades" and lots of patience.

They seem to be superceded very quickly, supplies of material dry up and support is limited.

They are slow .....

And, there's lots and lots of 3d print houses around that will produce your object for very little cost - just send them your file - so they have the hassle and expense.

The printers I have started looking at are kits that you put together your self and are easy to interchange parts. They start about $150- $200 US. I think that's worth it to me to learn.

I picked up a kit from reprapguru. Didn't take too long to put together and i've had a lot of fun with it. Cost was about 300 for the kit, but i've dumped more into it for upgrades. Filament is a big expense too. At 20-25 bucks a spool it adds up. Have about 10 spools or so now.

Definitely need a 3D printer in my life :)

why haven't you yet? lol A kit is the way to go though, building it taught me so much.

Kids travelingputs a strain on practically everything kinda hurts but you can see the good it does :)

The one i use is a geeetech G2S Pro, however i would avoid it unless your willing to invest some time into A. Assembling it, and B. Calibrating It / Sanding flat the wonky plate they give it.

It works nicely after that, but its a bit more of an uphill battle to get there than the cheap Cartesian printers.

Off Ebay i have been finding 1KG of PLA for $20 a roll, (place in brisbane), and so far has been working very well, avoid rolls smaller than 1KG if you have a bowden type printer, as the curvature makes it jam in the bowden hose far more often.
