Hi,

I am new to this forum and look forwards to learning from you all.

Where do the UK users get their 18650 cells from?

Many thanks,

Mike

I spent a few hours on google maps and found the nearest 50 computer repair shops to me. I phoned them all and told them straight up I'm scrounging for dead laptop batteries and did they have any. Of the 50, about 40 just said no. Some who said no advised they were registered with some recycling scheme and that they couldnt give them to me even when they had them. I have 8 companies say they had a few and i'm welcome to come get them. Some of these said they would be happy to keep them aside for me to collect every few months. These batteries are free. The remaining 2 companies said they have a lot of batteries. Hundreds. But they knew they are worth money. We talked money and came to an agreement. Its about what people are paying on ebay. So if I can't get enough free ones, I have the option to buy some.
I found it quite uncomfortable basically cold calling these people at first, but I quickly got over that!

To get the best prices and the best cells, you need to ask people, schools, and small companies. For example, in my college, I was easily able to get the IT managers to give me a ton of laptop batteries, as they change them every year. Though, I would advise you to get multiple sources.

Also, if you are lazy, just get power banks on Amazon. Excellent cells for a rather low price, and usually good charging circuits.
